What is Wisdom?
I didn't find a verse I liked that gave a definition, so this is more what does wisdom look like.
James 3:13,17 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom...But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.
Prov 17:28 Even a fool is counted wise when he holds his peace...

Why is it important?
Eccl 7:12 For wisdom is a defense (or shelter) as money is a defense, but the excellence (or advantage) of knowledge is that wisdom gives life to those who have it.
Prov 8:11 For wisdom is better than rubies, and all the things one may desire cannot be compared with her.

How do we get it?
James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
Eccl 2:26 For God gives wisdom and knowledge and joy to a man who is good in His sight...


Activity Questions:
You and a friend are both competing for a promotion. You find that he made a serious mistake that can be corrected. Do you warn him?

You've sold your house and are getting ready to leave. Before you move, you discover the roof is leaking. Do you fix it?

Wizard of Oz...

James 3:13-4:3 tackles two kinds of wisdom, God's and the world's. Near the end of the Wizard of Oz, Dorothy and her friends have brought the broomstick of the wicked witch to the wizard and ask that he grant their requests. As he stalls for time, Toto pulls back the curtain revealing that the magnificent wizard is nothing more than a man who has everyone fooled. James' exposition on wisdom pulls back the curtain on the world's wisdom and exposes it as for what it really is, wisdom de jour based upon a consensus of people who convince everyone else that they are right. James calls such wisdom earthly, unspiritual, and of the devil.
